Lily Doane has wanted to open her own business in the hair industry for a while now. She has developed long-standing relationships with her clientele over the past 12 years working at her sister’s upscale hair salon. Recently, she decided it’s time for her to take the leap and branch out on her own. However, she did not have enough funds to purchase a salon at the moment and had to rent a mini salon to service her clients. Her schedule was always booked, and she wouldn’t turn down walk-ins clients. Sometimes, she had to work on two or three clients at once and it was quite a challenge when she had got such a small space to work with.…

The collared lizard is a species found in the Desert Southwest. Male collared lizards show considerable color variation, ranging from brightly colored to a very dull pattern. Your goal is to determine the function, if any, of male color patterns in collared lizards, using the scientific method. Your tentative explanation is that male color plays a role in attracting females for mating purposes. You predict that females will preferentially choose brightly colored males over dull-colored ones. To test this prediction, you observed the interactions of female collared lizards with their male counterparts. You selected males that were the same age and size, and that differed only in their coloration pattern. You placed equal numbers of the two types of male lizards, bright and dull, in aquariums, along with one female lizard per aquarium. Out of 350 aquariums observed, the female chose to mate with the brightly colored male 277 times, and the dull-colored male 70 times. In 3 instances, the females did not mate with either type.…

The middle class is defined not by a class of people in the middle of a social hierarchy, but rather as a façade of the so-called “American dream.” New York based author and historian, Stuart Ewen, in his essay “Chosen People,” published in “Literacies” by W.W. Norton & Company Inc. in 1997 addresses the topic of the middle class and argues that social status and class are characterized by patterns of consumerism. Americans today ask themselves what the true “American dream” consists of and many face a harsh reality that this dream is not an easy lifestyle to live. Ewen and other authors, Ira Steward and Alan Dawley, go into detail focusing upon the true middle class lifestyle and how this dream becomes an unattainable goal for more Americans every year.…
