Applications of Wireless Technologies

Each of the following images depicts a real-life scenario in which a wireless technology is being used. Review the five images below and answer the corresponding questions.

Scenario 1

0 What wireless technology is being used in this scenario? Fixed broadband wireless.

1 Why is this technology appropriate for this scenario? Users can access data from either building or any location that is part of the WLAN.

2 For the wireless technology you identified, what is the standard transmission distance and transfer speed? 75 Mbps and 35 miles.

3 Use the Internet to research one to two applications of the illustrated wireless technology. List each application found. Be sure to reference the Web site(s) where you found this information. To offer high-speed Internet services, a fixed wireless carrier creates a data network that operates over MDS, MMDS, or ITFS frequencies. The following diagram provides a high-level look at a typical broadband fixed wireless network, including a fixed wireless headend that connects to a central antenna that broadcasts data directly to home and business locations, or to smaller cell sites, which in turn reach remote pockets of businesses or residences. 0 Why is this technology appropriate for this scenario? Using a Bluetooth headset with a PDA and cell phone in his pocket, he can make calls with having to get out his cell phone.

0 For the wireless technology you identified, what is the standard transmission distance and transfer speed? 33' and 1 Mbps

0 Use the Internet to research one to two applications of the illustrated wireless technology. List each application found. Be sure to reference the Web site(s) where you found this information. Bluetooth's first main application will undoubtedly be the elimination of the tangle of cables that litter floors near computers and hi-fis. Yet its potential even in this arena goes beyond just eradicating clutter. Unreliable connections will no longer be a problem, nor will the reconfiguration of units when connections are changed. Switches will no longer be necessary, and we won't have to tear our hair out when wires can almost, but not quite, reach their destination. Bluetooth will provide for a completely hassle free computing environment ("Bluetooth Applications", n.d.).
