Delta Taxis, the busiest taxi dispatch operation in Europe in 2007, expanded to new, larger premises to house additional staff and facilities. The biggest challenge to their expansion was how to move all of their communications needs to the new facilities without losing service or customers. Having been in business for more than 40 years and with more than 1,400 taxis in service, the company had always used the same phone number and changing that number was not an option they would even consider. Too much of their customer base had their current number pre-stored in mobile phones and speed dial settings. Furthermore, any down-time would also be costly and would result in a loss of customers. With this in mind, Delta Taxis chose to move their communications needs to a VoIP service. Working with a local VoIP provider, Delta Taxis was able to retain their phone number, as well as integrate their entire booking and dispatching system into a VoIP solution that has enabled them to move to their new location and not lose business. Delta Taxis now takes 7.2 million bookings annually over its 150 VoIP lines. It seems that the VoIP solution has benefited the company greatly by allowing for continued operation, number retention and integration of all of the communications needs of the company. Using VoIP has the advantages of allowing for unlimited scalability while maintaining the same phone number, no physical ISDN lines to install or maintain and the possibility of integrating other communications needs such as voice and data on a private mobile radio, IVR, call center ability, and more. VoIP can be made available in a standardized package or can be tailored to fit the needs of a company. Integrating services such as data, video, vendor and other services necessary to an enterprise’s needs allows for an “all-in-one” solution that cannot be matched by standard land line solutions.
