Floor Plan Site Survey Data Sheet
The following tables will help you gather the data necessary for analyzing each of the five floor plans in the Floor Plan Site Survey exercise. As you go through the exercise, complete the information in each table. The information gathered in this assignment will assist you in your final project.
|Explain the major features of this floor plan. For example, are there large open spaces, large walls, cubes, or offices?| |The major features of the conference center are a stairway, concrete wall, large open conference room, and many offices | |with walls. | |Identify areas of this floor plan that may present issues when designing your network. Why will these areas present | |issues? For each area identified, what can you do to overcome the issue? | |One of the areas of this floor plan that may present issues when designing this network is a stairwell with concrete | |walls between the conference room and the data center. The stairwell and concrete walls lower the signal for the | |conference room and the rooms to the right of the stairwell. I will need an access point on both sides of the stairwell.| |A concrete wall is also between the bathrooms that lowers the signal to the offices to the south of the access point. | |Positioning an access point in that part of the building will ensure the offices have sufficient signal. Another issue | |may be that there are offices with full walls on the right wall of the floor plan. Even though the total length of that | |side is only 250 feet, depending on the position of the access point, the walls may interfere with the signal. I will | |have to test signal strength for additional access point positions. | |Based on your site survey, do you think that placing the wireless access point in the data center is an ideal location? | |Would you place it somewhere else in the building? Do you think it will be necessary to have multiple access points in | |this building? | | | |I believe that placing one of the wireless access points in the data center is an ideal location. The offices between | |the conference room and the bathrooms will need wireless access. Another wireless access point should be positioned on | |the lower side of bathroom 2 because the signal strength is low, this also depends on the signal strength needed for | |that area. Another wireless access point, or two, will need to be on the right side of the floor plan. There are no | |wireless signals in this area. I would use a wireless access point to map out where these access points should be | |placed. |
