Environmental degradation is most alarming! At the present accelerating pace of deterioration, our country is becoming a water land. Unless something concrete is done to check this catastrophe, our children’s future literally doomed. A degrading environment threatens to lessen the quality of life of Filipinos and limit the potential for economic recovery. A.

Our forest is reduced to 20%.
Our fishing resources is nearly depleting.
Coral reefs are 70% destroyed.
Each year the country loses an equivalent of 100,000 hectares of soil one meter thick from the original 500,000 hectares of mangroves. We are down to 38,000 hectares. •
Garbage are found anywhere, no solid waste disposal program at all. •
Water pollution is at its worse stage, notably, on municipal coastal waters, rivers and lakes and drainage areas. •
Air pollution is quite alarming brought about by industries, power plant and vehicular pollution. Environmental protection should definitely be everyone’s priority. No stronger statement could drive home such message. Environmental protection is too urgent to be ignored as individuals in our own ways. We can protect left of our endangered environment. As we protect it now, it may eventually restore itself. It is not really hopeless if everyone should work toward its protection now. B.
