Introduction
Heritage
Judaism, Christianity, and Islam all share a similar genealogical heritage that has been traced from Adamand Eve to Noah, through Noah’s son, Shem, to Abraham, and from Abraham to Isaac and Ishmael. Abraham’s wife Sarah could notconceive a child so she asked Abraham to have children with her handmaid Hagar. Hagar and Abraham conceived Ishmael. Later Sarah and Abraham conceived Isaac. After Isaac was born, Sarah cast out her hand maid Hagar and her son Ishmael. The religious triangle now begins to diverge (William, Marshall, & Schvanebeldt, 2008).
Belief about God
Judaism, Christianity, and Islam are all monotheistic religions. Monotheistic usually means “the doctrine or belief that there is but on God” _Merriam-Webster _Online Dictionary(2010). The three religions all believe in one God although Christianity is sometimes misunderstood because Christians believe the one God is triune or the Holy Trinity. The three religions believe God is the creator of all that exists and he cares about all creations and desires the well-being of all (Mojzes & Swidler, 2002).
The Future
Islam, Christianity, and Judaism all believe in an afterlife. The three religions all believe that despite the past or the present there is a future. They believe that evil and suffering cannot prevail. Although the three religions do not agree on the name of the future all agree that the future will bring about “God's unchallenged rule and unconditional bliss for all who live with God” (Mojzes & Swidler, 2002, para 4).
