Fifty-five men, months of revising, and thirty-nine signatures later our nations most important document, the Constitution, was formed. The Constitution is still very relevant to the United States and its citizens. For the past two hundred and twenty five years, the Constitution has successfully guided America. It lays out the structure of our government and explains all of our laws and freedoms. This document helps our government and our people function everyday.
When the delegates wrote the constitution, they wanted power to be spread equally throughout the government. Our government today still respects the rules of the 1787 document. A division between the legislative, executive, and judicial branches was created. Each part of government had a large amount of equally shared independence, but they we’re also limited. The Constitution set up regulations for each person in a certain branch such as how old they had to be, how long they could serve, how long they have been a citizen and how they were chosen for their job. Even after more than two hundred years, the ideal government that the delegates created is still the backbone of our nation.
The Constitution has helped America for the better. Looking at our country now, it is a great place to live and this is all because of the bill of rights established in the Constitution. The amendments written in the Constitution years ago are still followed today. They give us our guaranteed rights and freedoms. In the first amendment, civil liberties are guaranteed to united states citizens. This amendment is very important to American citizens and more important to immigrants who have moved to our country. It protects the government from choosing a dominant religion for everyone. This is appealing to immigrants coming from many different religions into our country. The first amendment also provides us with the freedom of speech, press, and assembly.
