1. InforGear filed Iphone mark with USPTO March 1996
2. InfoGear began selling their telephone with internet connectivity in 1997 (combined a telephone and dialup Internet portal) The original iPhone trademark registration covered integrated telephone communication with computer networks
3. 2000 Cysco Systems acquired InfoGear, thereby acquiring the Iphone mark
4. Cysco used the IPhone mark for its VOIP after the acquisition
5. In 2001 Apple commenced negotiations with Cysco to license use of the IPhone mark.
6. Negotiations continued through 2006 but Cysco did not agree
7. September 22, 2006 Apple formed Ocean Telecom Services LLC
8. Same day Apple filed an Intent to Use Application with USPTO
9. Ocean Telecom claimed a prior right based on Trinidad filing of March27, 2007.
10. September 19, 2006, Apple filed an application to register the iPhone trademark in Australia (V also claimed a prior right to the iPhone mark based on the same trademark filing in Trinidad and Tobago)
11. International Trademark law allows filing in another state based on filing in one.( The effective date of trademark protection in the United States, however, was the date the original applications were filed in Australia and Trinidad and Tobago, not when the registration was filed in the United States) Madrid Protocol allows for a trademark holder in another country to file an international registration with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO)
12. On December 18, 2006, Cisco launched its new iPhone product
13. On January 10, 2007, one day after the Apple iPhone introduction, Cisco filed a lawsuit against Apple for trademark infringement

Apple Inc. is a multinational company that specializes in the manufacturing of electronic equipment like smartphones, software and computers. The company is well known to everyone for products like iPhone, Macintosh, iPad and iPod. Apple came into existence as the joint effort of Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak. Wozniak was the mind behind the technology while Jobs was mind behind the marketing strategies. Apple Inc. was founded by Steve Wozniak, Steve Jobs, and Ron Wayne on April 1, 1976 then was incorporated in 1977. The company was first established as Apple Computer Inc. Later on, the company founders decided to remove the world computer from its original name in order to show a future growth in different electronic products. The first product manufactured by this company was Apple I. “Apple used TV as the display medium, which was revolutionizing in its own self. Before that, no personal computers offered any sort of display. It worked much faster than other machines and provided an easy start up RAM and bootstrap code.” (Apple Inc., 2012) Building these machines was a problem because of the financial status of the company and because the location wasn’t appropriate. They managed to get a loan for US$250,000 through Mike Markkula who co-signed the bank loan. With money and new hope, the Apple II was created and it was specifically directed to households. ”Millions were sold well into the 1980s.
