iPhone 5 vs. Galaxy S3
Living in a world filled with new technology coming out everyday can be very overwhelming for consumers. Cell phones are one of the best examples of changes in technology today. Right now the two biggest names in phones are the iPhone 5 and the Samsung Galaxy S3. TV viewers will probably think these two phones are running for presidency, since every commercial shows one phone bashing on the other. Each phone has properties very similar to each other and have very dissimilar qualities. Three representations of this are the phone's screen quality, app store, and the personalization. Qualities of a cell phone screen have greatly improved in the last few years. The two differences in display for these phones are the iPhone 5's 4” LCD display and Samsung Galaxy S3's 4.8” Super AMOLED screen. iPhone 5 is still using the Retina display produced from the iPhone 4. The iPhone 5's IPS (In-Plane Switching) LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) gives the screen 326 pixels-per-inch. LCD displays offer the most realistic colors found on screens, but it may not offer a wide contrast ratio like its rival phone. AMOLED (Active-matrix organic light-emitting diode) or OLED on the Galaxy S3 do offer the wide variety of contrast ration (darker darks and brighter brights). With OLED the S3 lights up each pixel separately creating this unique contrast. AMOLED screens do not use back-lighting and because of that the S3 can turn off pixels producing very deep blacks. Apps can make life easier and a lot more fun. Each phone has their own app store, offering almost the same thing, and will come down to preference. Galaxy S3 uses the new Android based store that merged with Google called the Google Play store. There is a lot of indie based developers creating new apps everyday for users.
