Mosquito-borne diseases, such as malaria, dengue fever and yellow fever, have plagued civilization for thousands of years. There are many kind of mosquitoes, each of which has a different habitat, behavior and preferred source of blood. About ten of these species are so numerous, and such vicious biters of man and animals, that an organized mosquito control is necessary because mosquitoes are not a nuisance as biting insects, but are also involved periodically in transmitting disease to humans and animals.…

The title has been selected for the study because mosquito bites are common here in the Philippines and it’s the cause of dengue. A total of 54,659 dengue cases were reported nationwide from January 1 to August 14, 2010, much higher than the recorded 31,248 cases in the same period in 2009 and there’s not much difference in dengue cases from 2010 and as of now. The main purpose for this is to test the effectiveness of Chili and Kamias as mosquito killer and as an alternative way to make pesticide. And the effects of the ingredients to the environment and the people around it. This study can also be used as a source for the people who want to use our ingredients and procedures in making their own mosquito killer. And to provide security and comfort to the people in their homes from mosquitoes.…

    INSECT REPELLANT

    • 638 Words
    • 3 Pages

This may seem a strange question to ask. However, it is critically important. There are thousands of mosquito species worldwide. Some are far more important as nuisance-biting pests than others. Many don’t even bite humans. The vast majority of mosquito repellent tests published in the scientific literature use Aedes aegypti (the dengue/yellow fever mosquito). This is pretty much the lab rat of the mosquito world. It is a great species to work with as it is a day-biting species and has a relatively consistent biting rate. Testing a repellent against Aedes aegypti is pretty much the way to go. In malaria prone regions, testing against the malaria-vector and avid nuisance-biting species Anopheles gambiae is useful too.…

For the natural repellent with the most scientific backing, look to lemon eucalyptus oil, the sole natural ingredient to get the EPA’s (Environmental protection agency) endorsement. Numerous studies show that it works just as effectively as low levels of DEET (N,N-Diethyl-meta-toluamide) (7 percent to 15 percent concentrations) by masking the body’s natural odors. Look for a 30 percent to 40 percent concentration for maximum effectiveness.…

    | ALGEBRA OF SETSBASIC OPERATIONSAs we have introduced meaning of the terms set, subset, null set and universal set, we can learn how to build new sets using the sets we already know. The way we do it is called set operations. The set operations are: union, intersection, difference and complement. They are called Boolean operations.Let A and B be subsets of the universal set U. Then we can look at the set C U that contains all elements of set A and all elements of set B and nothing else. In other words, x C implies two statements: x A or xB. Shortly, we describe set C withC = { x | xU, x A or xB}UnionThe union of sets A and B is the set of all elements which belong to A, to B or to both. It is denoted by A B,AB={x | x U, xA or x B}.The conjunction “or” permits that x is an element in set A and an element in set B. We can say that x is an element of the set AB because of the three reasons:…

More often than not, people buy chemicals to control pests and diseases. But there are ways to control them without spending too much. In fact, some of those can be found right in the farm or backyard. For individuals, studies have shown that coating the body with a jelly based compound including garlic can keep mosquitoes away for some time. Obviously such a method, whilst effective against bites, has fairly major social side effects.…
