Chapter 2
This part shows the related literature and system studies, including the topical outline of literature related to the study of Warehouse Inventory System with SMS Alert and Barcode Reader. Review of Related Literature

This review is about Bell Electronics Lab Corporation situated in Calamba, Laguna March 2007, engaging in test and assembly of optoelectronics and sensor devices. The company is concentrating on its resources in metal can packaging. The second phase of the company's program is towards the development of other types of optoelectronics and sensors’ device packaging to support their customer requirements. In that case, the proponents have decided to present an Automated Inventory System using Portable Data Acquisition (PDA) module to help the company’s growing business. The PDA module is composed of barcode scanner to scan issued and received items, and a Z8F6423 Zilog microcontroller to sore the information. A Product Inventory System (PIS) application program is also discussed to show how the PDA module can be interfaced with the PIS. According to Bill Gates, software is a key to tackling this complexity. In the past, software innovation was a held back by hardware and connectivity limitations, but there are disappearing past, this make it possible for us to take all the amazing technology in our lives and make it work together seamlessly. Then computing can truly empower our ideas, strategies aspiration and creativity. The smart device, software and systems that people use should form a connected and unified system that works on their behalf and under their direction computing should enhance personal and business connection through rich communication and powerful, flexible and intuitive enough to adopt the ways people and companies want to work. Inventory issues can have varying importance not all parts of all businesses are equally affected. While it’s true that most of businesses require some sort of material inventory, and that without it, they might not be able to operate, the relative importance of that inventory in financial terms can vary dramatically. Prevailing interest rates can also affect the importance of inventory. An inventory control system is an integrated package of software and hardware used in warehouse operations, and elsewhere, to monitor the quantity, location and status of inventory as well as the related shipping, receiving, picking and put away processes. In common usage, the term may also refer to just software components. Modern inventory systems rely upon barcodes and potentially RFID tags, to provide automatic identification of inventory object. Inventory object could include any kind of physical asset: merchandise, consumables, fixed assets, circulating tools, library tools, or capital equipment. To record an inventory transaction, the system uses a barcode scanner or RFID reader to automatically identify the inventory object, and then collect additional information from the operators via fixed terminals (workstations), or mobile phone.
