Title: How the invention of film changed the world.
Specific purpose: To inspire my audience about what the invention of film has done to change the world.
Central Idea: The invention of film has helped shaped nations – regardless good or bad – through the sharing of ideas and stories, which has helped to shed light on social issues and truths.
Introduction
In Japan, there is a beautiful aquarium called the Kuroshio Sea, and it is the second largest aquarium in the world. In it, you will see whale sharks that are as long as the length of this classroom, stingrays at least three meters wide, and what seems like a boundless species of fish. And I know this, because I have seen it. But I have never in my life, been to Japan. You must be thinking, how could she have seen all of this, without actually being in these places? The answer is, film. To apply the principle of charity, when I say film, I mean moving images or motion pictures.
The earliest invention of film happened in 1867, when a man named William Lincoln invented a device called the Zoopraxiscope, in which you could gaze into and see moving images. However, the very first proper motion picture camera, was invented in the early 1890s by two French men by the name of Louis Lumiere and Auguste Lumiere. Today, I have come to praise the Lumiere brothers for their wonderful invention, for it is my belief that film has had such a powerful influence on the world that it has helped shaped nations, be it good or bad.
Now, it is my understanding that film is part of literature; and literature, as we learnt a few semesters ago, is life. Therefore, I can infer that film is life. And in life, all we want to do is tell a story; stories of our past, stories of our present, and stories that we hope for the future.
