1. Apply the information in the text on pp 409-411 entitled “New Options for Organizational Design: The Networked Enterprise” to explain how the Internet has facilitated the growth of companies selling cigarettes and prescription drugs.
There are five new options for organizational design that I have already learned in this chapter including Learner Organizations, More Flexible Operations, Increased Collaboration, Greater Independence of Company and Workplace, and Improved Management Processes. Some of these new options are the factors for the growth of companies selling cigarettes and prescription drugs. For the companies, selling cigarettes and prescription drugs online can help them make more profits in many ways. The company can earn more money by cutting the cost of hiring employees. Information networks allow the companies with fewer employees and simpler organizational structures. The companies only need to hire a few of people for doing the businesses that would save a considerable cost for the companies. For the customers who mainly concern about the price, this kind of purchasing drugs can be a sweet deal for them. In US or some other countries in UK, people have to pay a lot of money for buying cigarettes and prescription drugs. Therefore, some people want to travel to Canada to purchase prescription drugs because these drugs are cheaper in Canada. This matter is no longer a matter. Nowadays, people can pay less by using the internet purchasing because they do not need to pay the taxes for cigarettes and so the companies. It is even better when people do not need to travel to Canada but still able to make a purchase with the lower price once they are using Internet purchasing online.
