Social Media has really taken off over the years. Social Media is simply a way users can communicate with each other through internet applications. It refers to interactions among people in which they create, share, and exchange information and ideas in virtual communities and networks. Through research on Forbes, a study was done where it showed time on social networks represents 16% of all the time people spend on the internet, or one out of every six minutes, compared to one out of twelve minutes in 2007. One of the biggest social sites right now is Facebook. Facebook handles 1.5 billion updates daily from 600 million active users, with 73% of all American internet users on there. It is noted that companies need to make social media part of their marketing strategy. They should pay attention to because this is where their customers are. Not to mention their competitors and their critics. Social Media Marketing has become exceedingly popular among businesses of all sizes because they are paying attention. They understand where their customers are. Social media marketing is the process in which companies look to gain notice. Bring attention to their product through the social media sites. Social media itself can be broken down to show how sites can provide radically different social actions. For instance, Twitter is a social site designed to let people share short messages or “updates” with others. Facebook, in contrast is a full-blown social networking site that allows for sharing updates, photos, joining events and a variety of other activities. Social Media Marketing has become the most popular marketing technique. It has become popular because of several different things. Through social media sites a business can effectively communicate directly with its clients, customers and other businessmen. Social media sites like Facebook, linkedin, twitter provides a mode of direct communication to a business. People who are interested in a particular business can get updates directly from social media sites. They allow people to pretty much add anything they would like. Links, text messaging, email etc is all avenues people can use to contact a business. Social Media sites really help business’s to reach to global audience in which otherwise they would have a hard time doing. Basic social media knowledge is all you need for creating a social media profile. It does not require any programming knowledge to implement a marketing plan. It does not require hard effort and much time to run a marketing campaign. It does not charge anything. It is easy to measure the effectiveness of social media marketing campaign through software tools. Social media has become so important, that companies now capitalize off it and charge business’s to do their marketing. One of the main advantages business entrepreneurs go with Social Media marketing is because it is cost efficient. The majority of social media sites are free to access, create a profile and post information. The advantage of reaching your targeted market for little or no cash investment is substantial, and the audience wanting your information voluntarily joins or follows you. It allows you to reach out to your clients and customers on a daily basis where you can get more personal and make your customers feel at ease about your product. This offers you, the business owner, the opportunity to learn more about your clients and their interests. When you get on a more personal level with your customer base, they’re more likely to put their trust in you and refer you to friends and family. Not only will your customers refer you by word of mouth, but their social media friends will see that they have liked your business and chances are they’ll look into your product or service and see what you have to offer.
