Thomas cites different people, whose job is closely related to counterfeiting of luxury goods, to support her arguments. For example, the mention of the testimony of the secretary general of Interpol is crucial to support her argument that relates the production of fake goods to well-known criminal organizations. The secretary general of Interpol, Ronald K. Noble, states that the profit made by the sell of counterfeiting good goes to groups associated with criminal organizations, such as Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia. (Thomas, par 5). Also, the author describes her first-hand experience to counterfeiting when visiting a clandestine factory in Guangzhou which grants her credibility on the topic. The author offers a detailed description of her visit to the factory which provides support to her argument that counterfeiting is negative, not only because it affects the legit companies profi/economy, but also innocent human lives. (Thomas par 7). It is also effective that the author connects her appealing to ethos through her personal experience to her appealing to…

I have brought this to my home when traipsing around with my friend, an electronic fanatic, in Shenzhen. Entering into the electronics mall, I saw a stupendous multitude of similar product in name-brand knockoff shop. Next to Samsung and Sony are Samsong and Suny. I also found Aiphone, Hiphone, SciPhone and the deliberately misspelled citrus-themed iOrgane there. What is more astonishing, in a place less than 500 square meters, there were more than five stores purporting themselves to be official Apple stores. Besides electronics filed, the copycat phenomenon had already expanded to other filed of business, commercial and even architecture. Hustling and busting on the street, people were tying at Balckberry, putting their Beet headphone on, lining up for Pizza-Huh, and of course, there were many of other domestic and exotic restaurants catering for various…

In Australia, when a change to the food laws, food additives or novel ingredients is required, a submission is made to the government regulatory authority, Food Standards Australia and New Zealand (FSANZ). This submission generally comprises of a review of the literature, giving the background to this change, comparing this change with the situation in other countries, and reviewing the literature for possible adverse affects on humans. Submissions are generally made by a company wishing to change the food laws, and they present evidence to support their claim that this addition is safe, and poses no threat to the health of the population. The submission is then open to public comment where other interested parties might refute the evidence and present a different case.…

    1. The Japanese has stagnated due to Japanese banks, which had financed much of the boom in asset prices with easy money, now found their balance sheets loaded with bad debt, and they sharply contracted lending and deflation. The Nikkei average plunged from nearly 39,000 points in December 1989 to about 14,300 points in August 1992, thereby losing about 60% of its value. As a result, investors lost the equivalent of (U.S.) $2 trillion and property values plummeted by about $10 trillion. Property values in certain parts of the country declined by 70% and plunged Japan into a deep recession for 10-years.…

The problem is global counterfeiting and piracy, which accounts up to an estimated $600 billion a year. Intellectual property in the form of books, music, product designs, brand names, process innovations, software, film, and many others are easy to copy. Counterfeiters leave no product category untouched and the knockoffs sell for a fraction of the price of the real thing to eager buyers worldwide. The main factors that have contributed to this problem are the internet and globalization. Since 1982, piracy of intellectual property has grown over 10,000 percent. The symptoms of counterfeiting and piracy can be seen around the world. Imitations of Pfizers best-selling pills among many others are responsible for an estimated tens of thousands of deaths per year. There is an increasing rate of counterfeits threatening the global health and safety of consumers. Billions of dollars are lost annually due to counterfeiting and some companies have completely given up on looking for counterfeit products, the reasoning is that it isn’t worth it because it is so big and the profitability of the actual legal sales more than offset the losses due to counterfeits.…
