The impact of globalization on multinational corporations: taking SONY as an example
Abstract
This paper aims to analyse the influence posed by the process of globalization on multinational corporations. In order to demonstrate this, the paper selects three important events of SONY from the 1960s to the 2000s and goes into each of them to reveal the relationship between the globalization and multinational corporations. The analytical model adopted by this paper is the PEST, which covers political, economic, sociocultural and technological factor. Finally, this paper summarizes the primary change of international business environment since the earliest example.

1. Introduction
Globalization has become a buzzword over the past years, which is described as a process of incremental mutual dependence among diverse markets and production because of the trends of trade in goods and services and flows of capital and technology (European Commission, 1997). However, pointing the reference to economy, Kolodko (2006) suggested to regard globalization as a liberalized and a progressively integrated procedure to move from the previously markets of capital, commodities and labour which were in a sense isolated to a single world market. As is well known, political decisions generated the globalization process at the very beginning. Nonetheless, the development of technology, society and economy offered the reason and support it (Scherer & Palazzo, 2008). Also, Croucher (2004) asserted that the term globalization should be treated as a combination of the effects stemming from political, economic, sociocultural and technological factors.
