Reflecting on the Course.
During the last thirteen weeks of our International Business and Cross-cultural Communication’s course I have learned about the importance of clear and lucid communication, especially in the international business field. The human mind is a hard thing to understand, even though you have been told many times pre-judging others is bad and you shouldn’t do it, still you do it. The thing is you are human and no matter how hard you try you will still have flaws and will still make mistakes, but the most important thing I have learned this semester from this class is; if you open your mind and respect others truly, no matter how different you appear to be from them, you could find a way to communicate humanly. Most of the time, we forget that we are all the same species, difference is very easy to spot but seeing the same is tough. Cataloging is the way we organize things according to their similarity in our head. Some examples would be to stereotype, to be prejudice, to have bias against or towards, and to discriminate someone.
Without looking at my notes or books I could talk about non-verbal communication, Hofstede’s Culture Dimensions, inductive and deductive reasoning.
1) Non-verbal communication- Anything that is not a word, such as facial movement, hand gestures, speed of your movement or even silence. Non-verbal communication has less rules sometimes none at all because it’s hard to control sometimes you do it without even knowing yourself.
2)
to If someone asked me to define culture, I can do it with few sentences involving the words values, attitudes, beliefs, coherent, learned and views. Being able to define such terms, help me organize my thoughts and also makes it easier to recall them. [continues]
