To begin our analyses, to determine whether our business would make sense in Canada or not,   we will start by looking at some key factors that would influence our decision making towards building a successful business or whether starting a business at this time would make sense economically and strategically.
First a quick background review of the Canadian economy, it’s population and education.
According to CIA World Factbook Canada is one of the biggest economies in the world with current GDP well in the “trillion” dollars currently ranked 15th in the world and GDP per Capita $38,400 ranked 25th. Moreover, the Canadian economic system is similar to U.S economy in that they’re both market oriented economies. Therefore, catering to Canadian students shouldn’t be much different than that of U.S students. Furthermore, the NAFTA trading agreement between the two countries facilitates this process as well.
The Canadian economy relies heavily on its natural resources and export. However, the biggest occupations are services which make up to 76% of the Canadian labor force. Current labor force amounts to 18.4 million est. (2009) and total population is 33.5 million est. (2009). Historically Canada has had low unemployment rates; however with the current global recession that rate has increased to 8.5% which is relatively high.   One negative factor about the Canadian population is that is growing at a very slow pace about 10.28/1000 people. Moreover, the Canadian population is a diverse as the U.S population with many different ethnicities and various religious backgrounds. In addition, 58% of the population speaks English 21.6% French and 19.6% other languages. This could prove to be problematic in the sense that we cannot foresee how many of the non English speaking population actually do speak English as a second language.
