The Bad:
As great as Rise of the Planet of the Apes is, they’re are some bad things in this movie that puts smudges on the film. The acting from the humans at times are down right awful. The airline pilot arguing with Will’s grandfather just makes the scene feel telegraphed at the start of it, but the worst offender is the character Tom Felton plays as Dodge Landon; the caretaker and abuser of Caesar. His performance looks like it should have been in a cheesy horror flick and I couldn’t believe that he’s given the line “Take your hands off me, you damn dirty ape!” The second offender to me is David Oyelowo who plays Steven Jacobs. Caesar carries this movie easily on his back as we all watch him go through his existential moments. Those moments lead to some harsh realities that makes you want to cheer for Caesar although...
