Intelligence and Assessment
      Intelligence and assessments are two items that often stir feelings of both anxiety and curiosity. Individuals are often curious to know what their intelligence quotient measures, but are also consume with anxiety over the possibility that their score may be lower than expected. This is increased by the debate on how to accurately define intelligence, with the current definition consisting of a broad term containing many different ideas and open to interpretation. Many assessment tests have been developed to attempt to measure intelligence and achievement while remaining reliable, valid, and unbiased. Pride in a high intelligence has even given rise to intellectually societies, such as Mensa, that only allow membership to persons who obtain a score within the upper two percent of the general population on approved intelligence tests.
      The formal study of intelligence first appeared in the late 1800s. It was originally believed that intelligence was hereditary due to the evaluation process of testing subjects based on dictionary definitions, honors, and awards. Eventually, the assessment of intelligence evolved to measure skills such as reaction time and sensitivity to stimuli. Alfred Binet and Theodore Simon developed the first intelligence test. When individuals think of an intelligence test, the Binet-Simon test is the assessment that is most commonly described. A wide arrange of intelligence and assessment tests have evolved from the foundation of the Binet-Simon test.
One of the most widely used IQ tests is the Career IQ and Interest Test. This is a multi-medium self-assessment designed to measure an individuals’ interest in over 400 job classifications and occupations.
