Informative Speech: How to Make a Boutique Bow
Informative/Demonstrative Speech

I. Introduction a. Attention Getter:
Have you ever wondered how you could make your own hair bows? Do you want to learn to make hair bows for that precious little girl in your life?

b. Brief Background:
The idea to make hair bows first came to me after shopping for bows at the mall and realizing that they were not only poorly made but also extremely expensive. Hair bows are fun and simple to make, and anyone can learn how in just a few easy steps. (www.makehairbows.org)

c. Specific Purpose Statement:
After listening to my presentation you will learn how to make a simple bow in 8 easy steps.

II. Body d. The first step to making a simple boutique hair bow is to gather the tools and materials that you will need. i. You will need the following tools: 1. Scissors 2. A lighter to heat seal your ribbon to keep it from fraying 3. An embroidery needle with about 6” of embroidery string 4. A glue gun and glue ii. The materials needed to make your bow are: 5. Ribbon, it can be any size and any type, but I prefer using 1-½”grosgrain ribbon, simply because it is easier to handle and more durable. It’s not as delicate as organza or silk ribbons. You will also need about 6” of 3/8” ribbon, which will be used for the center of your bow. www.hairbowcenter.com is a great online supply store that specializes in all types and sizes of ribbons. 6. Hardware to anchor your bow. I prefer alligator clips but you can also use berets or even headbands. 7. It’s optional to use embellishments, such as rhinestones, buttons, or anything else that can make your bow “pop.”

e. The second step is to shape your bow. iii. You start off by cutting a piece of 1-½” grosgrain ribbon 2-½’ in length, and folding it at the center (you may mark the crease lightly with a pencil). 8.
