TOPIC: Kikuyu dowry procedures
GENERAL PURPOSE; To inform
SPECIFIC PURPOSE; I will inform my audience of the dowry procedures required Before a man gets married to a girl from the Kikuyu tribe in Kenya
THESIS; Dowry payment precedes a wedding in the Kikuyu tribe [the largest Tribe, of the 42 tribes in Kenya].It is a series of events namely, ‘kumenya mucii’(getting to know the bride’s home),’kuhanda Ithigi’(literally means planting a branch of a tree),followed by ‘kuracia’(actual dowry payment) and finally ‘itara’(getting to see The nesting place of their daughter, which is a visit to the grooms Parent’s home.

1. INTRODUCTION
A. Have you ever wondered what it would be like to marry outside the United States? And probably marry an African girl from the Kikuyu tribe? Did you know you have to make a dowry payment in form of goats?
B. Today am going to share with you the customary dowry procedures required before you can marry a Kikuyu girl. This has to be satisfied before you can call the woman, “your own”.
C. I personally am from the Kikuyu tribe, have a big sister who went through the same process and have seen my aunties and my mother go through the same. I therefore believe am a credible source to talk about the Kikuyu dowry procedures since its something I have witnessed happen.

According to tribal customs, a woman’s greatest asset is her potential to marry and bear children (Western 84).
