Technology has advanced from the typewriter, handwritten documents, and the file cabinet to computer information systems and software applications. This essay will give a brief overview of how Finance, Human Resources, and Marketing Departments in an organization use information systems and software applications.
Definition of Information Systems and Software Applications
Today’s organizations use two tools, information systems and software applications, to operate effectively. The tools help organizations save time and money. Through reading and researching, I have defined information systems as computer hardware and software organized to help managers and other employees make sound business decisions. Software applications allow computers to process information. A few examples of software applications include databases, word processors, and spreadsheets.
Finance Department
The Finance Department in an organization strives to provide accurate information to those who use financial statements and collaborates with other departments of an organization to ensure proper processing of all monetary transactions.
A software application, VIP Task Manager, allows the Finance Department to manage, track, and report all activities in its department (VIP Quality Software, 2004-2011). VIP Task Manager gives managers the ability to monitor and share information in the database. When using VIP Task Manager, employees in the Finance Department become more organized. This will lead to meeting deadlines, improving work performance, and saving time.
Human Resources Department
