Information systems and information systems management, like the rest of the industrial world, have made the transition into the computer age. The constantly changing business world is starting to demand more from management executives than ever before. The explosion of computer and communications technology, the growing of the global business community, and the need to keep up with these and many more factors are demanding that management executives react quickly and effectively to changing business conditions. To adapt to this need for immediate knowledge of a given situation, many large corporations have begun to appoint chief information officers to update and integrate their existing systems into a more modern totally integrated information system . The information system, then, is an integration of all computer systems in a given corporation and includes marketing, management, production, distribution, promotion, operation, and communications. By having all relevant systems integrated, there will be fewer problems with communication to or from any one part of the company, enabling management to streamline costs, cut waste, and be aware of the day to day operations as well as any market factors. Such systems would place a stronger emphasis on the strategic importance of being able to adapt quickly to all market environments and situations. Dealing prim again necessitates that the organization sending the data already has it digitized, or that it come directly off of computerized data gathering equipment. However the information is obtained, the gathering of any relevant information for processing and its introduction to the computer system are called input . The opposite of, and end result of, input is output. Any information that has been processed or synthesized from the introduction of input towards the completion of a specific goal is referred to as output.
