Information Systems Essay

Throughout our class we have discussed many different types of advances in technology. We have also discussed many different types of companies that have progressed and developed because of technology. It has been quite amazing to see all these new advances that I have never realized existed. There are even some that I have been using but not realize how it works or what I’m using. One of the topics we discussed that I found really interesting and got a better understanding was what cloud computing really is. I had always thought it was just a storage that only phones use to help store memory. It turned out to have a much bigger meaning and a great way to have a good business. One of the other things I learned was how Google gets its information for its maps. I also found it interesting to learn how Google makes money through there website which I could never figure out. It is an amazing company that continues to grow throughout the years. While hearing about cloud computing I learned that there are actually business’ that make money off of cloud computing by selling large amounts of storage to buisness’ that need it. What some huge business do is buy a server, which stores a certain amount of memory. Yet this storage is usually too big and never gets filled to its full capacity and because of this reason the company wastes a lot of money doing so. As a substitute companies have now began using these cloud computing companies, which charge a much smaller fee to store their memory for them. The is only thing is you will have to be able to trust the company you are asking to store your memory in case there is information you don’t want to be released to the public by accident. So what these computing companies do is quite simple. They sell storage for their buyers and place different information in a certain storage unit until it gets full then they begin using another server once that one is completely full. If the company buying

Technology has taken great leaps of advancement. Some of the new technology that companies and consumers are taking advantage of to store and process data is cloud computing. Cloud computing was derived from virtualization. Virtualization allows companies to separate business applications from hardware. Doing this gives the company the capability of assigning applications as needed. The option to manage applications is a great benefit to companies. Resulting from the virtualization error, cloud computing has emerged to provide flexible IT infrastructures. This has not only enhanced the options companies now have, but it is also proven to be more cost efficient. This has increasingly become a preferred method of companies and consumers alike. The national Institute of Standards and Technology under the department of Commerce defines Cloud Computing as “a model for enabling ubiquitous, convenient, on-demand network access to a shared pool of configurable computing resources (e.g., networks, servers, storage, applications, and services) that can be rapidly provisioned and released with minimal management effort or service provider interaction”. Another definition for cloud computing is a term used to describe a network of computers that deliver information technology services over the internet to many users in an on-demand environment (P.Y. All of us need to be aware of texting and driving and the dangers of it and take steps to minimize the risk to ourselves and others. Is it really that important to stay connected during every hour of the day? According to Ian Mulgrew, a journalist/author from Canada, many accidents are blamed on distracted driving and most of the distractions are caused by cell phone usage (Mulgrew).
