The Role of Integrating ICT in Quality in Products and Services
Executive Summary

The integration of Information and Communication Technology within organizations has played a major role in boosting the quality of their products and services. However, this integration has faced a lot of challenges and obstacles before reaching its goals. This was the reason why firms have taken few actions and reviewed their policies to make the most of using ICT in their businesses. Key words: ICT, Quality, Products, Services.

There is no doubt that the application and development of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) have a massive impact on so many aspects in our lives, especially on companies and businesses in terms of improving the majority of processes by reducing the amount of time it takes to complete a specific task which leads to more productivity with less use of energy, therefor results in a stronger and competitive economy in regards of producing more quantity due to the high speed at which the processes are completed. However, there are few questions to be answered and by doing so we can have a clear view and a true guidance to how Information and Communication Technology is efficient and significant in our modern life. These questions are such as: Does ICT also improve industries in terms of quality aspects? What about services? Have they been improved at all by the use of ICT? If so, how did this happen? The aim of this study is to understand and answer these questions. The remaining of the paper will be organised as follows: Section 2 discusses how Information and Communication Technology is currently operating within companies in terms of quality in the fields of products and services. Section 3 points at the obstacles which prevent ICT from reaching satisfactory level in terms of providing good quality products and services. Section 5 mentions what actions organizations have taken in order to boost their products and services quality and performance. Then section 6 gives a couple of examples of real life companies and talks about what impact integrating ICT had in their business. Finally, the paper concludes with a summary and few recommendations to consider.

2.1 ICT and quality in products

It is quite clear that the value of products obtained from ICT integration is more improved than traditional products in terms of performance and functionality.
