...does musicinfluenceteens in love, drugs, and drinking?
Society today is different than it was decades ago. Whether good or bad, it is evident. Culture is more centralized around media more now than it has ever been. It'd be hard to go a couple hours without being exposed to media and impossible to go a whole day. How exactly does media influence us? Does the constant exposure make us susceptible to the messages artists and designers are trying to portray? Getting more specific how does music affect teen life? Music is something that is important and valued by many teens a crossed the world. It is possible the lyrics of these scandalous, rebellious, and/or M-rated pop artists are sinking into the cerebellum of curious teenagers. Teenagers are the targeted audience for many artists. My question is, how does the explicit music we listen to affect our behaviors when it comes to sexual activity, drugs, and alcohol. Digging deeper into one of media's most effective conveyor of message, there is research that puts some backbone into the argument.
American adolescents are exposed to 2.4 hours of music per day and their weekly listening easily exceeds 16 hours (Primack, Douglas et al., 2009). Today’s artist paint pictures of teenager’s sexual fantasies, making it seem risk free and fun....
...MusicIndustry Digital Communications
Peter McLelland – 1001849
In this essay, I intend to discuss several points regarding the state of the MusicIndustry and Digital Communications (MIDC). I will begin by explaining how Copyright is affected by technological developments, then I will go on to compare Digital and Physical Marketing and Distribution with a SWOT analysis to show my findings. I will then continue to describe how Corporations, Artists and Consumers have responded to changes in the digital music market, and I will conclude this essay by analysing Digital Music Legislation and its effectiveness for music businesses.
1 - How Copyright has been affected by Technological Developments
Copyright is, in itself, a property right. This means that there is no need to register for copyright, as it arises automatically when, for example, a musician writes a song. For the artist's work to be protected by copyright, they must have material evidence of their work (as ideas can not be copyrighted).
The Copyright Designs and Patents Act 1988 (CDPA) gives authors certain economic and moral rights with their works. The CDPA dictates that, for musical works, copyright remains in place 70 years after the original copyright holders death. Copyright lasts for different lengths of time when applied to different areas, for example, when copyright is applied to Typographical...
... Jazz Music
Developed in about 1900, Jazz music has been an influence in many artist's work, from painting to other forms of music. Jazz is an American music form that was developed from African-American work songs. Jazz music was developed about 1900 by black Americans. It possesses an identifiable history and describable stylistic evolution. European classical music, American blues, and South American songs and rhythms came together to form what became known as jazz. Jazz has borrowed from black folk music, and popular music has borrowed from jazz. Jazz is the art of expression set to music. Jazz can be described generally as music rooted in improvisation and characterized by syncopated rhythm, a steady beat, and unique tone colors and performance techniques. Jazz is said to be the fundamental rhythms of human life and a man’s contemporary reassessment of his traditional values. Jazz is a kind of music in which improvisation is typically an important part. In most jazz performances, players play solos which they make up on the spot, which requires a considerable amount of skill. One thing that makes jazz music so unique is that it’s focus on improvisation. Louis Armstrong, a trumpet player from New Orleans, is considered the father of modern jazz...

Illegal digital Downloading
Illegal digital downloading is sometimes called piracy. It is the downloading of content from the internet, without permission from the copywriter/s, in addition to not paying for it. Undertaking this activity is what we call a copyright infringement.
In the past decade, the musicindustry has had to adapt to the new digital era. Throughout its progression, we have seen the birth and rise of piracy, which has been the foundation of many financial losses totalling to billions not just in the Musicindustry, but also the Filming, Gaming and software industry’s.
The industry as a whole, over the years has tried to devise a solution to the conundrum, but endured allot more failure than success; despite their emphasis on legalisations in regard to organised piracy companies, and their users.
In this report, I will be analysing how illegal digital downloading/piracy, affects the UK &US MusicIndustry, and Global Economy.
When and how did it start? The info graphic below exhibits the diminution of CD sales, transpiring from the year of 2000. This quandary was due to organised Illegal...
Several people have claimed teenegers today are being shaped by what they are seeing. People believe that the influences they are being exposed to - such as models, video games, tv shows and violent movies - are having a negative effect on their behavour. But this, for the main part, isn't true. If it were, would there not be more girls wanting sparkly vampires for boyfriends, and more boys dressing up in suits that look like bats? However, some influences on teenagers CAN have negative effects.
Models can have a very horrible effect on teenage girls. They constantly put themselves down, and starve themselves to try to look like these sticks that prance about in hardly any clothes. Whats so appealing about looking like the skinniest wotsit ever? While obesity is to be avoided, surely girls should be allowed to have a piece of cake without feeling guilty afterwards? The weight of models is unreal, and teens shouldn't have to feel like they have to be that size. They need to be shown that beauty comes in different forms, not just in the form of a sick insect.
Most teenage girls watch romantic movies, or tv shows such as The x Factor. How is a show about people dancing supposed to influence teenagers in a bad way? The most thats going to happen is they'll start dancing in the streets. Boy, yes, they like to watch violent movies, but what's going to come of that?...
...Coco Chanel’s Influence in the Apparel Industry
Coco Chanel’s influence in the fashion industry began over a century ago during the 1920’s. Chanel embraced the essence of the “Roaring Twenties” which was all about becoming “someone” and separating yourself from the old and beginning a new life. Chanel focused on the newly found needs and desires of women and designed her fashion around what women had wanted. Not only did Coco Chanel pave the way for modern fashion, she also created innovative ideas using fabrics that were traditionally used for menswear. These fabrics were incredibly durable which allowed Chanel to construct new designs with less fabric than what would have been traditionally used. One of the major fabrics that Chanel included in her lines again and again was wool jersey. This fabric is comfortable and easy fitting, but at that time, had not been considered suitable for fashionable clothing. This was an incredible influence that Chanel had in the fashion industry because she showed the world that wool jersey’s can be used in fashionable clothing.
Coco Chanel also had created a modern spin on embroidery for women’s clothing. Instead of using more fabric, such as lace, Chanel decided to decorate the clothing using beading and embroidery. Coco Chanel also frequently accessorized her clothing with multiple strands of pearls, quilted handbags, sling-back ivory...
...Influence of Music
Influence of MusicMusic and radio has roots in American culture and the way society is today. The different types of music genres have shaped American culture and social behavior of Americans. Audio media has had a major affect and influence on the attitudes of Americans and especially today’s youth and young adults.
Music and radio has given American culture its values, the way that jazz, blues, and R&B created rock & roll, music created American culture. Music appeals to young adults, and youth as an escape to the hard times of real life. Drawn by the explicit lyrics and beats, the youth always searches out for music to dance to and music to connect with. American culture has been steadily changing due to music and what is known as pop culture. The need to be accepted in a certain social group has a lot to do with music. Music brought a cultural shift in the race segregation, black artists playing music with white artists and for mixed audiences. American culture before the 50’s was a strict segregation culture and music allowed for the barrier to be broken. Artists using sexual innuendoes and other antics changed what was the norm of morals and values and put a more...
Musical Influences Essay
I’ve never really been one of those people you find with music always blasting in their car. I’d much rather have conversations. Headphones in world out, has really never been my thing. I prefer the solitude and serenity of silence. I think it has to do with my mother. She was a professional dancer and for most of my life I would sit through her rehearsals listening to constant blaring of music. I found myself really taking advantage of the beauty of silence. Not to eliminate my appreciation for a good piece of music though, I can completely relate when people say music is an outlet. It has the ability to wake you up and realize that you are strong, worth the fight, and overall it helps people cope with some of the hardest times of their life.
Bullet and a Target- Citizens Cope
Citizens Cope has always been and will always be one of my favorite bands. This song really relates to me because obviously any life track you take there will always be decisions to be made. Sometimes I feel like either decision I particularly make I’m always letting someone down. It’s like being stuck between a bullet and a target in the sense that I’m always being put between and rock and a hard place.
“But what you've done here
Is put yourself between a bullet and a target
And it won't be long before
You're pulling yourself away”...
