Competency Goal IV- To establish positive and productive relationships with families Families I am a firm believer in the fact that students, whose parents and/or families are involved in their education, are more successful not only in school but in life. I always try to encourage families to be a part of their child’s education and skill building. There are so many ways in which the Center provides opportunities for the families to interact and communicate with the teachers and staff that are taking care of and teaching their children. One of the ways that I help encourage the parents to get involved with the Center and staff is by sending reminders home about when there will be a parent meeting, open house, or resource fair. These reminders are great for the parents to have so they remember the date and time of the event. By giving the parent the reminder it gives me a chance to also talk to them about what is going to be happening at the event, that way they understand the whole story and I get to keep that communication open between us. Having the parents come in to the events is great, it allows them to see the people that interact with their children every day and show their children that they are interested in where they go each day. Another way I try to get parents to be involved is by asking them to volunteer. I am constantly reminding parents when they pick up and/or drop off their children that they are always more than welcome to come in and volunteer. When talking to parents about volunteering I let them know what a great impact it has on their children when they do take the time to come in and volunteer in their child’s classroom. It’s also great for the parents as well; they get the chance to see where their children spend most of their day and see the different activities they do and games they play with the teachers and staff. I think volunteering is a wonderful thing...
