CDYC 213 Infant/Toddler Activity

Age level/s: Toddlers, 1+ years

Activity Name: Homemade Play Dough (non-toxic)

Materials (if any): 1 cup salt, 2 cups all purpose flour, 1 cup luke warm water

Procedure: Mix salt and flour in large bowl.
Stir in water gradually to make dough.
Kneed dough with hands for 5 minutes. (Longer you kneed the dough, the smoother it will be)

Dough should be stored in air tight container for later use.

Age level/s: Toddlers 2 and up

Activity Name: Milk Painting

Materials (if any): 1 small can of condensed milk, food coloring, white construction paper, paint brushes, small bowls/containers

Procedure: Put condensed milk into each small bowl.
Squeeze different colors into each bowl or make combinations to create new colors! Chocolate syrup makes a great addition for brown paint. Blend food coloring and milk thoroughly.
PAINT!

Activity Name: Quiet time sponge blocks

Procedure: Cut sponges into variety of shapes and sizes. Use different colors, as well. Children can stack them, sort them, toss them, just about anything!

Procedure: Cut apples in half.
Dip apple halves in paint.
Decorate paper with apple prints in various colors.

Activity Name: Ivory Soap Science Experiment

Materials (if any): 1 FRESH bar of Ivory soap, 1 bar of Dove soap or another brand, clear container filled with water, microwave-safe plate, microwave

Procedure: Examine both bars of soap
Predict if soap will sink or float
Put one bar at a time in water and observe
Discuss the results and why they could be that way
Cut ivory soap into quarters
Microwave two of the quarters for 60-90 seconds
Remove, foam will be warm, not hot
After it cools, place broken pieces of soap into small dish for children to wash their hands

Activity Name: Strainer and Some Pipe Cleaner

Materials (if any): household strainer, pipe cleaner

Procedure: Give the child the strainer after you place pieces of pipe cleaner through the holes. Let me add more cleaner, change the direction or the cleaners and enjoy the outcome! Ideal quite, relaxing activity.

Activity Name: Clean Sponge Painting

Materials (if any): washable paint, white paper, sponge(s), zipped bag

Procedure: Place white paper inside gallon size storage bag. Cut sponge into several small pieces and dip each into a different color paint. Put sponges in the bag and seal it.
Show toddler how to press on sponges to paint and paper.
Show him/her to shake the bag to move sponges around.
Take paper out of the bag and let it dry.

Age level/s: 2 years and up

Activity Name: Balloon Painting

Materials (if any): balloons (9-inch birthday party size work well), washable paint, paper

Procedure: Blow up balloon just big enough for children’s hand to grab/control. Dip balloon in paint.
