Inequalities Between Genders

In the novel, A Hope in the Unseen, the main character Winter has a strict ideology between men and women. In society, we see inequalities between genders and norms attached to each gender to perform specific roles. I believe that society stills views women as doing the housework and men going to work every day to support the family. In the novel Winter has her own view on what a real man or woman should do that differs from what most people believe.
Winters view of men is that men should have things that are tangible such as cars, money, and other luxuries. Along with that she believes that men do not have to have a good personality. In contrast she thinks that women should have nice clothes, wear makeup, and always look good. Her views are influenced by the way she was raised because her father brought in the money while her mother always looked good and had her hair and nails done, nice clothes on, and makeup done. I would not agree with her idea of real man and woman because I have been brought up differently. I believe that women do have a duty as housewife, but should still be able to work. As far as grooming goes, it is personal choice of women that helps her express herself and not define who she should be. On the other hand, when it comes to the idea of men, I believe that the man should be in charge of the house and bringing in the money. However, personality is always a considerable aspect in any person despite what Winter may believe.
Society always ties roles to people according to gender, social class, and race, but as individuals I believe that we should try to be our own person and not stereotype what you should be. I totally disagree with Winter’s ideas tied to each gender because women are more than looks and men can do more than make money. However, I feel that Winter was taught to believe that because that was how her parents were and she is a product of her parents beliefs and ideas. [continues]
