In order to improve time management, managers may engage in a variety of activities to

include allocating resources, involving your employees by delegating, instructing a team’s

planning effort, and revise objectives regularly. Establishing a time log or checklist assists with

staying on task, identifying when the task is to be completed as well as using it to review when it

changes to the objectives are needed.

Eliminating time waster can also help improve time management. A few time wasters

include emails, phone calls, meetings, unscheduled visitors, and failure to delegate and not being

able to say no. Ways to control a few of these time wasters are if possible have someone to divert

your phone calls, limit your calls, and schedule times to conduct outgoing calls. Prioritize emails

when reading and responding. Junk unread junk emails, as well as limiting email forwarding.

Take control of unscheduled visitors by announcing a time limit up front, standing and meet the

visitor at that door.

Time management and problem solving can also be improved by eliminating stress.  

Stress among employees can be work-related and derived from organization’s policies, structure,

physical conditions and processes. Managers should be aware that their behavior is a

contributing factor as well. Awareness will allow the managers to make attempts to minimize it

or avoid behavior that trigger stress in the employee.   Likewise supervisors should encourage

and empower their employees.

In order to improve problem solving first you must define the problem(s) before you start
trying to solve it, which can save you a lot of time and hassle. Then brainstorm possible solutions
and alternatives. Think of past solutions to similar problems, and think about how you could
improve on these past solutions. Then narrow down your solutions into the most feasible.
