Important Quotes in The Fault in Our Stars by John Green
Quotes To Live By from the Fault in Our Stars by John Green

The Fault in our Stars by John Green date of publication was January 10, 2012 the story is narrated by a 16 year old cancer patient named Hazel Grace, who attends a support group (forced to by her parents). There she meets and falls in love with 17 year old Augustus Waters.
Quote 1: “That’s the things about pain, it demands to be felt.” -Augustus Waters, page 63
This is my favorite quote in the book, mostly because it’s so true. Love and Pain seem to be the strongest of emotions. There are just times when the pain of something is so intense, there is nothing else to do but feel it. And on Augustus’ part he feels pain both ways, with his cancer and his love for Hazel.
Quote 2: “Easy comfort isn’t comforting,”-Hazel Grace, page 145
This is quote is clear and so true. We all think we want the easiest comfort, and we expect people to say the easiest, most comforting things. But when I think about it doesn’t make me feel any better. What I think Hazel means is that it’s a false comfort.
Quote 3:” The world is not a wish granting factory” -Augustus Waters, page 105
What I like about this quote is that it’s so raw, and kind of slaps you in the face. Because you can’t always have things go the way, what you imagine things to be like ends up being the exact opposite. You can’t always get what you want and exactly what you need.
Quote 4: “Without pain we couldn’t know joy” – Hazel Grace, page 54
This was one of the quotes hanging up in Augustus’ house that Hazel loved. She found it comforting, I feel the way as Hazel, it means that you would need to go though many tragedies and painful times, to really find happiness and joy. And that it will not be easy to find it, you will have to work hard and not give up. Cause theirs always happiness.
Quote 5: “I think forever is an incorrect concept,” – Hazel Grace
Hazel answered this after Augustus asked her if she believed in an afterlife. I love how Hazel

Although love hurts it is still worth waiting for. "If certain, when this life was out, /That your and mine should be," this suggest that love still lives on even after death. "But now, all ignorant of the length/Of time's uncertain wing, /It goads me, like the goblin bee, /That will not state its sting." This metaphor set a mood of uncertainty of when love is going to come. It hurts waiting for love, but not knowing when love comes hurt even more.…

Hazel told Augustus about how death is separating her from her family and she’s scared to talk about death, since every time they discuss about the topic of death, her parents seem to be extremely worried and gloomy. “I could feel everyone watching us, wondering what was wrong with us, and whether it would kill us, and how heroic my mom must be, and everything else. That was the worst part about having cancer, sometimes: The physical evidence of disease separates you from other people.” (Grace 2014 – Page 144). This quotes explains hazels fear of death because she states about how she can feel everyone wondering about her, caring for her, specially her parents and since she doesn’t want anyone to be close to her, she’s getting separated from everyone. She doesn’t have a way out of this problem. For her, that’s the worst part about having cancer, and how her parents would think she’s depressed but in reality she is not. By a physical evidence, hazel means that her parents and her other relatives believe that she’s in depression and that starts separating her from them because she likes to be left…

She is home-schooled, so she rarely leaves the house. She reads a lot, especially this one book called An Imperial Affliction, written by her favorite author Peter van Houten. It isn’t until she meets Augustus Waters that her life changes. It’s when her mom forces her to go to a support group that their worlds collide, and as she gets to know him, she realizes that even though she won’t live to an old age, she’s still alive now and should make the most of it.…
