Important medicines and herbs found in St. Vincent and the Grenadines
A herb is a plant whose stem does not produce woody persistent tissue and generally dies back at the end of each growing season. In general use it is any plant with leaves seeds or flowers used for flavouring food, medicine or perfume.
Parsley
* Parsley: derived its name from the Greek word meaning “rock celery.” It is a bright green herb used to season or garnish many dishes. * It is also used to: * Cure bad breath * Prevent infection in the eyes and improve your vision * Keeps the lining of your respiratory, urinal and intestinal tracts healthy * It helps with period pain and menstrual irregularity * It removes excess water from the body * Contracting the uterus after child birth * Gout and arthritis * Slimming * Boosting kidneys * Parsley could also be used to make herbal tea. * A disadvantage of it is that when the seeds are used it causes fetal damage and abortion during pregnancy. * Sarsaparilla * Sarsaparilla is a root beer that is carbonated, sweetened and originally from the roots of sassafras plants. * Boiled Sarsaparilla root : * Helps some skin conditions * Increases general health * Treats rheumatism and syphilis * Cleans the blood, moving toxin from smoking

* Linseed is a cool temperate annual herb with erect slender stems, 60-80cm tall. Its flowers are five petalled in a cluster, bright blue or white.
