Being Rude!

There are many reasons rudeness is on the rise. One reason, rudeness is on the rise is because rap music demonstrates sex and no respect. For example, Nicki Minaj raps about being picky and rude. In Nicki Minaj’s rap she specifically talks about how she disrespects people with no problem leaving fans under the impression that being rude and disrespectful is the right thing to do. This also makes people watching her want to mimic her rude behavior. Another reason, rudeness is on the rise is because Reality TV has no censors. In fact, The Bad Girls Club is one of the most disrespectful self-degrading shows because the girls are disrespectful to one another and they don’t use manors. These girls are rude to one another because they all are competing for one title, therefore being rude is the only way to gain respect in the house. The last reason, rudeness is on the rise is because children aren’t being raised well. In other words, young children aren’t being raised the same way that most adults were raised when they were coming up, in addition kids are raising kids and they’re not instilling the knowledge, morals or discipline that their parents once instilled in them. Rudeness is on the rise because young people are feeding into new societal norms but if they could avoid that and focuses on more valuable stuff such as education there would be a decrease in rudeness.

The first art work chosen was a figure by Myron of Athens, Discobolous. The Discobolous, a Discus Thrower, is a Roman marble copy after a bronze original of 450 BCE. A picture of this piece is shown below, figure 1. This piece of art work is simply amazing and exemplifies the Greek sense of harmony and balance (Petronius, 2008). The artist depicted the statutes of that time, a male nude figure, which seems to express freedom of movement and the Greeks idea of beauty. Furthermore, this artwork exemplifies the role of the artist through a representation of human strength and values.…

Christina’s World is a painting set in 1948 by American painter Andrew Wyeth, and one of the best known paintings from the late 20th century. It illustrates a woman lying on the ground in a treeless, mostly orangey field, looking up at a gray house on the horizon with barns and small sheds across from the house. The young woman in the painting is Anna Christina Olson. It is said she suffered from polio (a muscular deterioration) that paralyzed her from the waist down. Wyeth had a summer home close to Christina’s and was inspired to draw the painting after he saw her crawling through the field of her home. The painting’s wasted limbs and pink dress belong to Christina Olson. The youthful head and torso belong to Betsy Wyeth (Andrew Wyeth’s wife) who was then in her mid-20s. Although Olson was the inspiration and subject of the painting, she was not the primary ideal.…

Cyd Charisse and Fred Astaire are both dancing to jazz in this black and white photograph of the 1920’s. The couple is dancing as two men and two women are sitting in the background staring and concentrating all their attention on Ms. Charisse and Mr. Astaire. But the photograph explains more then just the swing dancing that is occurring. The outfits, music, and entertainment all tie in together to explain the 1920’s as “the roaring 20’s”.…

We all often wonder why addicts do the things they do. We don’t understand why they, leave their families. This particular painting from Van Gogh is very catching to they eye due to all of the primary colors or red and green that contrast another. One would ask themselves once they studied the painting for a little while if this was the scene of a bar. This setting seems to have sort of slouched over people that do not really seem to happy and may even be depressed. This is the sense that I get from the fact that no one really seem happy and they seem to be drinking their sorrows away. Also the implied lines of this painting suggest they are all pointing towards the wet bar in the back of the room. Also the ambient lighting that is going on suggests to me kind of a gloomy overcast feeling. It is awkward that this painting has been called a café because to many now days it would seem as if it were a bar. Maybe the artist was sort of implying this is what they were called back then. I also get a sense of pattern and rhythm from the seemingly textured lights and the pattern that is emitted from the glowing affect of the lights. The pool table, bar, and the man dressed in white are all examples of focal points to me as they are the bigger pieces that attract more attention by viewers. The bar could be considered a focal point because of all the implied lines leading to it. The man in white is considered to me as one because he is what stands out the most from all the other dark clothed people. The pool tables closest corner is sort of pointing towards the viewer and expressing a stern line directly at the viewer. The very vibrant and expressive and warm colors used by Van Gogh here contradict the whole meaning and feeling of the painting. Van Gogh has used all types of shadows and textures to give depth and atmospheric perspective all the way from the back of the room by the doorway and what may continue on behind it. Van Gogh also utilizes the overlapping of…

At the Swope art museum there is an abundant amount of art work that possesses the qualities to capture the eye. However I specifically noticed the piece “Threshing Wheat” by Thomas Hart Benton was equivalently capable of catching my attention and having me focus on the painting. The moderately warm colors of the painting essentially speculate the warmth of the day in the painting and the high temperature of being outdoors and threshing real wheat. The organic shapes of the hardworking men and machinery in the picture display a human like connection with the painting, making you sympathetic by their exhaustion from working. The implied motion gives the impression that a still photograph of the men had been taken, because they still proceed to have an entire days work left ahead of them.…

The painting by Jacob Lawrence GOING HOME, (1946), is an amazing painting. When I first looked at this painting the first thought that came to my mind was the musicians were on a train on their way home, feeling exhausted having just finished playing at a night club. The train seats are green; this is the first color that captures your eyes. The color of the seats along with some of the red luggage gives the impression of the mood as being calm and relaxed. Over to the left of the picture in the upper hand corner there is a silhouette of the sun going down, but when looking through the windows the color blue is showing the outside scenery as if the night is approaching.…

For instance, most of the people have been trying hard to protect their children from hearing swear words, because the parent would not like their child saying bad words in general. However, some of them did listen to the rap song usually, or maybe the song just comes out as they get in the car, so the innocent kids will learn from the song, then the wrong things that parents worry about will result. For another example, most of the kids nowadays have individual electronic devices, so they could hear some inappropriate rap song from social media such as Youtube. Therefore, the thing about the attention of using language properly, respecting people, and moral understanding will start to change little by little. In brief, the recent rap music is always harsh, and bad for…

Now that we're clear lets talk about who uses profanity in our American society. Teenagers are the biggest culprits with an outrageous 87% of all teenagers using profanity on a day-to-day basis. However teenagers are not the only ones, adults are guilty also. The largest groups of these adults are the "entertainers" and, the not so entertaining, politicians. Why do they use profanity? For teenagers, according to psychologists like Dr. Francis Compton, a lecturer that has spent 30 years studying adolescent behavior, profanity is used as a way to feel mature. But it is mainly used because there is no reason not to and it gets our point across. Like when i yell SEXUAL INTERCOURSE you can tell that i am upset. Entertainers use it to sell themselves as "cool and hip" They also use it because profanity gets more of reaction out of people. For instance, Eminem has had numerous lawsuits against him for his crude lyrics. Nobody knows why politician use it but then again who does know what politicians are thinking…
