Working as a support worker for young adults, among other responsibilities, solely requires maintenance of a safe environment for the young adults to be cared for, while promoting wellbeing. Maintaining a safe environment involves a series of inter-twined activities which include monitoring and reporting the activities of the individuals in care on a day-to-day base. Considering that the activities are carried out by multiple individuals in different placements within the United Kingdom, with different attitudes and operation patterns, the need for regulation to foster uniformity and consistency within all organisations has not been ignored. The National Occupational Standard covers all fields of job roles at diverse levels of responsibility, identifying and expressing the most appropriate and generally acceptable practice in specific fields, bringing…

The aim was clear, to enable the young people to develop academically, personally and socially (Curtis, 2015) and go into the world with skills needed to be a functioning member of society. The talk entirely changed my opinion of working with young people. I had ruled out working with youths as an area of interest in my career however now I can see the positive change youth work makes and the significance it has on a young person’s life.…

Service Learning is an opportunity that only few fortunate students are able to participate in. I am very thankful that I have taken advantage of this opportunity. This whole experience has opened my eyes in many ways. Though I had been to orphanages before with my family and friends, it was my first visit to the women’s…

Although many pupils do still choose one of these options, it is likely there will be more opportunities available as there has been an increased government focus on and funding of education for 14 to 19 year old's, and in particular a focus on reducing the number of young people not in education, and employment or training post 16. Under the old labour government it was that by the end of the September of the year that each young person leaves compulsory education, they will have a place in further learning available. The September guarantee was implemented nationally in 2007 and was later extended so that 17 year olds who have completed a short course or have chosen to leave the activity they selected on completing school will have the opportunity to extend their learning.…
