If I Could Relive My High School Years

How often to do you reminiscence on your high school career? What you should have done or not? Whether you just graduated as the Class of 2013 or the Class of 1988 we all look back and wish we could relive our high school career and change a few things. Some of those things include playing sports, being in clubs, getting perfect attendance, hanging out with the correct people, etc. If only I could relive my high school career at Summit Academy North, as much as I disliked it, I would gladly redo it all. Yeah you read that right Freshman though Senior year and walking across the stage again. Starting with my Freshman year I would go back and change the fact that I never did my homework ( well most of it) and actually do all of it. Also I would have joined marching band, choir, dance, and National Junior Honor Society. I would not skip class or not pay attention to my teachers and participate more in activities, discussions, projects, etc. Moving on to my Sophomore year I would have joined the volley ball team, chose my fiends wisely, not date anybody in the school, and basically did the same things as I did my Freshman year. Junior year I would have pay more attention in class and prepared myself better for the ACT Test. I also would have applied for, toured, and decided where to attend for college. Finally my Senior year I should have pushed myself more to strive academically. In conclusion, over the four years at Summit Academy, I should have focused on my academics, participated more in sports and activities, chose my friends wisely, and be me instead of trying to fit in the crowd. Maybe if I was a bit wiser and began that four year journey with a much broader perspective then I would be satisfied on where I am today in my life.

My educational career from my freshman year at Saint Louis University High School although with some difficulties has in my opinion been a great success when I look back on it. In my freshman year, I was really challenged academically by my classes but managed to push on with the help of my teachers and friends who knew I could succeed if given some help. My sophomore year was a bit easier now that I had adjusted to the normal homework, I still had a tough time but found a love for my history and English classes, I also found myself becoming more sociable compared to my grade school years. My junior year was likely my hardest year but I believe I learned the most about what I wanted to do in regards to a college degree in my Psychology class.…

If I could change anything about the last four years of my life, I know of a few things I would rewrite. To begin, I would remind myself to stress less about petty things, and instead focus on the reality. I would tell myself that my real friends would reveal themselves, and to sooner accept that not all childhood friends would stay. Furthermore, after finding those true friends, I should have valued our time together more. This I realize as my best friend leaves for the Navy in July. Additionally, I would tell myself to not hold back; to try new things. Whether it be dance team, working in retail or a mission trip, I wish I would have allowed myself for these various new experiences. Lastly, I would have myself visit my grandma more frequently before her…

High school arrived faster than I thought was ever possible. It brought new faces, teachers, feelings, friends, etc. Those new feelings brought on something that adults told me never to do as I was growing up. The renowned phrase, “don’t ever give up on your dreams,” rung through my ears as I made the realization that soccer was no longer something I was passionate about. It felt as though I failed my parents and my peers, but I knew this was the most rational decision I could make for myself to ensure my…

Take a minute to imagine “Men looking like they had been/attacked repeatedly by a succession /of wild animals,” “never/ ending blasted field of corpses,” and “throats half gone, /eyes bleeding, raw meat heaped/ in piles.” These are the vividly, grotesque images Edward Mayes describes to readers in his poem, “University of Iowa Hospital, 1976.” Before even reading the poem, the title gave me a preconceived idea of what the poem might be about. “University of Iowa Hospital, 1976” describes what an extreme version of what I expected the poem to be about. The images I described above are just some of the horrifying scenes described by Mayes. This poem spoke to me about the pain and suffering patients endure while staying in a hospital (whether it be a mental hospital or a medical hospital) and the horrific images the staff see daily. Mayes uses several types of imagery and literary tropes in his poem to give readers an intense visual sensation as they read his poem. The visuals Mayes placed in my own mind while I read this poem were intensely real and stuck with me long after I studied the poem.…

The Summit has always stressed having a good moral character, which is one reason why I would love to attend there. I have learned to be independent and not let anyones opinion change me. I have learned to balance my tennis schedule with my school. For example, I try to knock out all my homework over the weekend so that I can have more time during the week to play tennis. I have learned to persevere and give 100% effort into everything I do because I know everything counts. This helps me in my academics because I will have tough homework assignments and I need to be able to push through them and put my best work into them. I have learned to be a leader and guide other people, helping them be the best person they can be. In school, I am always trying to set a good example for other students so that we have an environment that we can learn and improve. My current tennis coach is constantly working on my mental training to improve my composure on the tennis court. This has helped me see the positive things in the negative situations. For example, recently my friends have decided they don't want to be friends with me anymore. They positive in this is that I get to meet new people and I have really opened my eyes to the world around me. I have learned that excuses don't get you anywhere, and you might as well finish the task before its too late. One night at 11:00 P.M. I realized I…

There is so much that has happened in the last three, almost four, years of my life while attending Kalamazoo Central High School. I have gotten to know people, lost people, found out things about myself, I’ve had good times, and even some really devastating times. And even through all of the things that have happened they made me who I am today. There are somethings I wish I would have done differently with the time I’ve spent these last few years. So if I were given the chance to have lunch with my freshman self I would one, slap some sense into myself, and two really talk to myself about all the upcoming changes and how to handle them, advice on people and the situations I would be faced with, and people I should listen to because they know…

It was toward mid-senior year in high school. Maybe February. I was anticipating which colleges would accept someone like me, and trying to enjoy as much time with friends as I could. I was with my best friends, appreciating a beautiful Southern California day, and had come to realize my last days as a senior were coming to a close. I was a perfect day; big white clouds covered the skies, along with the beaming sun hitting the earth. The oceans breeze in our faces, and our shades on. High-wasted shorts and crop tops were the main clothing we’d wear, and if it were cold we’d just layer a sweater over it. We were living the “Cali lifestyle” because I live in an area where most of the students at my high school were half Caucasian and half Asian. I live in an area where the beach is only ten minutes away. Seeing dolphins or whales from the cliffs is a regular sight to see. Going to big bear during the winter is normal, and so are trips to Hawaii. Fortunately I had the opportunity to meet the greatest friends and best friends I will ever have in my life. But there is a lot you still don’t know.…

High School was a great experience. Not only did it teach me about Math, History and English, but it also taught me about choices and consequences. I had several close friends who did not get the same experience that I did. One of my friends had a rough start in life. At the end of our junior year she became pregnant with her first child. We started our senior year ready to celebrate our high school years coming to an end. She had so many plans for after high school. As the school year went on she expressed to me how her child father was being very supportive at first, but recently felt that he was no longer treating her the same.…

There’s something so intense about falling in love. It’s this all natural high, which you become so addicted to. It’s a gentle brush of a hand and the immediate embarrassing thought process that follows of wondering if it was on purpose, or the ever intense butterflies fluttering around in your stomach every time you see the glowing light from your cell phone, wondering if it’s that person calling you. I remember being consumed with this feeling two and a half years ago, when I first met this amazing man, I now get to call my best friend, and partner for life.…
