Assessed Discussion Question: Identifying Issues
Explore Kudler Fine Foods and respond to the following questions:
  1. What is the difference between an issue and a problem?
I went to several sources to define both “problem” and “issue” to compare the differences. While researching the definition of “problem,” I found the following on Wikia.com:
“A problem is an obstacle which makes it difficult to achieve a desired goal, objective or purpose. It refers to a situation, condition, or issue that is yet unresolved. In a broad sense, a problem exists when an individual becomes aware of a significant difference between what actually is and what is desired between one or more individuals (WIKI, 2010).”
“In business, a problem is a difference between actual conditions and those that are required or desired. Often, the causes of a problem are not known, in which case root-cause analysis is employed to find the causes and identify corrective actions (WIKI, 2010).”
The definition of an “Issue” per Merriam-Webster.com: “a final outcome that usually constitutes a solution (as of a problem) or resolution (as of a difficulty) or a decision about something arrived at after consideration (Merriam-Webster Dictionary/Define Issue, 2010).”
As a result of this research, the difference of an issue and a problem could be measured by the complexity of the solution and the size of the issue. An issue is smaller and does not present a degree of difficulty when solving. A problem is of a larger scale and often requires more guidance and research to solve it. An example I found in this research is, forgetting your lunch is an issue, losing your job is a problem (Difference Between Issue and Problem, 2010).
