This paper aims at identifying the drivers of corporate social responsibility (CSR) policies and whether or not it has an impact on company performance and its core values. The world today is constantly evolving, with rapid growth in market and investment. CSR has become a phenomenon constantly mentioned and is regarded as a complement to regulation, not a substitute. It requires the integration of environmental and social issues into the core business practices of an organization. In India, for instance, the idea of a business being socially responsible has been engraved in traditional businessmen who believed that their business was held in trust for society and managed it with the view of contributing to its development ( Arora and Puranik 2004).

The traditional north-south view of corporate social responsibility in terms of profitability has become redundant. The 90’s was filled with cases which involved environmental and social crises that had grave effects on corporate reputation. This proved to be instructive and served as a wake-up call to global companies. Today, companies around the world embrace CSR and are involved in voluntary initiatives.
