Identify the significance of the sacred text of Christian and Islam in providing ethical guidance to adherents
To Christians, the bible is a significant text which provides them with guidance. It gives individuals comfort, reflection and worship. Christianity is the biggest religion in the world and the bible is translated in 330 languages to allow adherents around the world to understand God’s teachings and guidance. The bible has two parts to it: the Old Testament and the New Testament. Christians believe that the bible is so important they use it at every mass. They usually read a passage from the Old and New Testament as well as extract from the Psalm’s which can either be said or sung. The bible passages are significant as Christians believe they are listening and responding to God’s words. God’s words talks about our beliefs and how we should live life. The Nicene Creed is the beliefs that Christian adherents uphold as well as the biblical concepts and truths. It’s a summary of the meaning to be a Christian and explains the teachings of the church, the Trinity (the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit) and about Jesus’ life. During the mass, Christians all stand up and recite it together saying ‘we believe...’ which provides a sense of pride and strengthens their faith in unity.

The bible states the laws of God which were given to Mosses on two stone tablets. The first three laws are dedicated to God and the seven other laws demonstrate how to live, which gives ethical guidance to all Christians. God told Christians to honour the commandments and obey what they are called to do. Jesus informs Christians that if you obey the law of the commandments, it will carry the laws into their thoughts and hearts. It affects Christian lives and society giving them ethical guidance on how they should live life.
