Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. People consider many things when talking about beauty. Generally, no two people consider the same factors. People can see the disparity if they consider some of the women that have been considered beautiful in the past. Two women that come to mind are Marilyn Monroe and Jackie Kennedy, two women connected by more than the fact that people considered them beautiful. Marilyn and Jackie are two names that conjure many thoughts, but rarely how similar they were in spite of their differences.

Jackie Kennedy was the epitome of America’s princess. She was the daughter of high society parents, a debutante, and the wife of Jack Kennedy, who some consider to be one of the greatest presidents in history. Jackie lived a privileged life in New England, but it wasn’t all sunshine and roses for her. Her father was a philanderer, and her mother finally grew tired of the behavior and left him. However, Jackie, who loved her father deeply, sided with him in spite of it. Marilyn also had a complicated childhood. Some say she was from the wrong side of the tracks because she didn’t know who her father was, and her mother suffered from mental issues. Her mother was institutionalized when she was a small child, and Marilyn spent much of her childhood in foster homes. Jackie Kennedy had her selection of available bachelors from which to choose a husband. Jackie had been engaged to a New England dentist when she dumped him for Jack Kennedy, a young politician on the rise. People say that her attraction to Jack had to do with how much he was like her father. Many wonder if she realized how much like her father he actually was. While Jackie was able to choose a powerful and influential man for her husband, Marilyn didn’t have that luxury. Her first husband was chosen out of necessity. She felt a marriage was the only way to change the direction of her life. Marilyn’s first husband was sixteen years older than she. Some people...
