“I Kissed a Girl and Society Didn’t Like It”
Imagine you are in the mall, walking around shopping. You get hungry so you walk to the food court and grab a bit to eat. You sit down and start to eat and you notice all the people that are sitting around you. To you right is an elderly couple sitting together sharing a pretzel, to your left is a teenage couple holding hands and stealing kisses you look over your shoulder… Wait a second. You look back to the teenage couple and notice something, its two boys making out and holding hands. How do you feel about this? Are you disgusted? Are you glad that they are happy together? Or did you just barf up your lunch because you couldn’t stand the site of two boys making out? Homosexuality is a social issue that is wildly spread throughout America and the world. Every person in the world has their own opinion about homosexuality due to how they were raised, what religion they practice, and their political stance.
Groups of people that are against homosexuality are more for religious purposes and procreation. One of the major rulings and “proof” that conservatives use is the Bible. They use scriptures to show that the Christian God was against homosexuality, one that is commonly used is Leviticus 20:13 – “If there is a man who lies with a male as those who lie with a woman, both of them have committed a detestable act; they shall surely be put to death. Their blood guiltiness is upon them.” This is saying that if a man has a sexual relationship with another man like he is supposed to have with a woman, then they shall be put to death. This shows that God disapproves of homosexuality. Another reason that conservatives are against homosexuality is because if gays were allowed to marry, they would also be allowed to reap the benefits of tax breaks and what not that heterosexual married couples get fiscally.
