What is a hypoallergenic animal?
Hypoallergenic means designed to reduce or minimize the possibility of an allergic response, as by containing relatively few or no potentially irritating substances,so a hypoallergenic animal is an animal that has a lower count of known allergens (things that cause allergic reactions).(Dictionary.com) How do they make them?

Scientists at Allerca Lifestyle Pets have announced that they have engineered hypoallergenic cats and dogs. They have gotten cats and dogs that seem to produce less Fel d 1 (cats) and Can d1 (dogs) glycoprotein which is secreted by the sebaceous glands, which is the main source of allergens produced. They then administer a western blot analysis.( Allerca.com)This test is an electrophoretic procedure used for separating proteins.(Dictionary.com) This is the same technology they use for DNA finger printing. This is to make sure that they produce less of the glycoprotein. They breed these animals together. This procedure is called selective breeding. Some cat breeds are Allerca GD, Chakan GD,Ashera GD. The breeds aren't "naked or hairless". (Wikipedia.com) Pros
