Hybrid Cars

I have always wondered what Hybrid cars were all about. Especially because over the past couple of years gas prices have been at record highs. I knew that there were such things as electric cars but until this last year or so I have only seen the wealthy be able to afford to drive them. And from what I had heard about Hybrid cars was that they were over priced, small, and not so attractive cars. No wonder nobody owns them. Now I am starting to see them more often and they aren't as bad as everyone had said. For this exploratory essay I first wanted to figure out what a hybrid car was and how it compared to regular cars. I wanted to find out everything that there is to know about them. I wanted to research the hybrid as if I wanted to buy it, which I do. First off in my search I wanted to figure out what exactly a hybrid car was and how it worked. There are two configurations for hybrid cars. The first configuration uses a gasoline engine to run a generator. The generator supplies electricity to the motor, which drives the wheels, which allows the gasoline engine to run constantly while achieving optimum fuel efficiency. This then minimizes emissions owing to incomplete combustion. A hybrid car with parallel configuration uses both an engine and a motor to drive the wheels depending on driving conditions (1). Hybrid cars use both gas and electric. The gasoline engine is the primary source of power, while the electric motor is used at low speeds. Emissions levels are reduced because the gasoline engine shuts off at low speeds. An additional benefit of the parallel configuration is that no outside source of electric power is required because the engine itself generates the required electricity(How Stuff). As I was searching on the internet; I also had in mind to find out if everything I had been told about hybrid cars was true. Things like they are expensive to repair, you have to replace the battery all the time, or that they aren't very safe.

First of all, with regular cars that are run by gas only; they leave excess gas into the air. With hybrid cars, you use electricity and they have a CO2 emission. A CO2 emission is an emission that would let carbon dioxide out which is also what we humans breathe out. The carbon dioxide would then be used from plants which provide oxygen for us. It is a cycle. A hybrid car is really helpful for our environment unlike regular cars.…

    • During an executive test drive just months before product launch, Daimler Chrysler officials declared a no-launch decision because of excessive vehicle vibration for the company's newly designed Dodge Ram Mega Cab 4x4 pickup. • Cummins Inc., manufacturer of the truck's diesel engine, immediately chartered a Six Sigma team and employed the DMAIC problem-solving process to diagnose and correct the factors leading to the high vibration levels. • Through extensive testing, the Six Sigma team determined that by increasing the crankshaft counterweight radius, vibrations were significantly reduced. • The Cummins' team completed the DMAIC project in an extraordinary time frame — just over four months — resulting in a 16% reduction in vibration levels and a 100% increase in sales of the truck in the first year compared to sales projections.…

What is a hybrid car? Basically, it 's a normal, fuel efficient car that has two motors – an electric motor and a gasoline powered motor. It also uses a special system to store braking energy in an onboard battery. But why buy a hybrid? Why not buy a traditional gas or electric powered car? Keep in mind, one of the basic rules of science is the more complex the system, two motors instead on one, the more often it will break down. This is a hard question and, in the minds of some experts, not fully answered.…

Hybrid vehicles have special options that allow for better fuel efficiency. One of those options is an idle stop. This option allows the gasoline engine to turn off when the vehicle stops yet still charge the battery packs. Meanwhile gas powered vehicles run the entire trip using only gasoline. The advantage to the gas powered vehicle is horsepower. The disadvantage is the heavier weight of a gasoline vehicle. Gasoline vehicles out power hybrids three to one, but will not get premium gas mileage because they are much heavier vehicles. However hybrids are extremely lightweight. Hybrid vehicles go so far as to have ultralite rims that act to decrease the weigh of the vehicle to achieve better gas mileage. One could achieve better gas mileage in a gas powered vehicles by choosing a four-cylinder engine, rather than V6s or V8s. In the area of MPG a hybrid would certainly…

Hybrid cars are designed on running on both an electric motor and an internal combustion system, and Electric cars run entirely on electricity without having an internal combustion system. In fact, both of these cars contain a rechargeable battery that can be charged externally, which helps in reducing the usage of gasoline which can diminish air pollution and save the environment. For example, a recent study by Experian Automotive reports that 40% more hybrid cars were sold in the U.S. in 2012 than in the previous year.(Eartheasy Blog, 2013, para.1) However, some people believe that these kinds of cars lack in four major aspects such as cost, performance, abuse tolerance and life. Thus, creating a controversial debate between whether electric and hybrid cars should be more promoted in everyday activities or not. In fact, Hybrid and electric cars’ economic and environmental benefits in addition…

There are many perspectives from experts about hybrid car. First perspective is a hybrid car is one that uses more than one of propulsion that means combining a normal petrol or diesel engine with an electric motor (Webster, 2014). Second perspective from expert is the hybrid vehicle utilizes two different power train “varieties” or energy sources and merges them to form one hybrid power train (Cobb, 2014). The third idea about hybrid car is it utilize more than one form of onboard energy to achieve propulsion which means a hybrid will have a traditional internal combustion engine and a fuel tank as well…
