I found this article to be extremely informative on the topic of global warming. As we all have realized the lengths of our seasons are not the same from when we were children. Most have shared in the experience of witnessing shorter summers and longer winters. Now more than ever before we are experiencing severe changes in our weather and devastating earthquakes. A prime example would be the 9.0 magnitude earthquake that devastated Japan’s northeast coast on March 11, 2011.   As a direct result of this quake an extremely destructive tsunami was created and triggered warnings all across the Pacific Ocean. These events are all caused by severe climate change due to global warming. With the scientific data and research given in this article, I as the reader can match these facts with what I witness in nature. It is obvious to me that our society will share the same fate of our planet; we are intertwined in a struggle of survival. Unless we as a collective address the issue of global warming, our children will be the bearers of our irresponsibility.   I’m a resident of New York City, and have witnessed most of this city’s severest heat waves. The hottest summers in my opinion have all taken place in the last 20 to 25 years this coincides with the authors statement “Nineteen of the 20 hottest years on record have occurred since 1980, and the 6 hottest years were all after 1998”[ Bridging The Gap, pg.442] Even while watching the nightly weather report, I feel skeptical if whether or not the information given is reliable.   With the understanding that weather forecasting is a scientific practice, I still believe that global warming plays a significant role in the outcome of a meteorologist’s weather predictions.   No one can say exactly for sure the overall consequence that we will face due to global warming, but one thing for certain this article will shed light on the topic of global warming.
I was especially impressed with this articles straight forward approach... [continues]
