Human Resource Management Roles
The human resources department in a health care organization has many functions and roles. This department conducts hiring and recruitment. Once an employee is hired, the HR department will provide the new employee with orientation, training and monitor performance. HR department also handles the employees’ compensation and benefits packages. All professional development and personnel management is handled and conducted through the HR department as well as the state, federal, and education regulations, work place safety and sanitation, Department of Labor mediations, and staff morale and retention
The role of Human Resource (HR) management is not only to improve patient health outcomes but to improve the delivery of health care services. According to Human Resources for Health, “Human resources, when pertaining to health care, can be defined as the different kinds of clinical and non-clinical staff responsible for public and individual health intervention” (www.human-resources-health.com, retrieved March 26, 2012). In this department, HR uses various human resource strategies and human resource tactics to gain and maintain good, qualified people to employ and to deal effectively with complex issues.
HR is also responsible for keeping all lines of communication open. This is usually done by conducting regular staff meetings where issues can be discussed and information can be relayed. Regular meeting builds trust in an organization and assures the employees that quality control is in place. Good communication will improve employer-employee relationships and increase productivity.
