1.Introduction
This report is intended to identify the purpose of establishing the personnel department in the Eclipse Engineering Company. It will also specify the activities that shall be performed by the new department proposed. The report will go further to state the means of maintaining adequate personnel records as well as the implications of their maintenance. The report will also tackle the choice of personnel record keeping as to whether should be computerised or paper records stating the advantages and disadvantages of each relating to Eclipse Engineering Company.
This report has been written under the request of Human Resource Management Tutor as an assessment and part of the requirement for SQA.

3.1.   Definition
Personnel department can be defined as the function of the organisation that is responsible for the management and motivation of people in the workplace. Thus, personnel management can be defined as obtaining, using and maintaining satisfied workforce. The use of the terms Personnel Department and Human Resource Management (HRM) in this report shall be treated as of equal value.
