Dogs at Work Places Disability Laws and HRM opinions

1. What is your position on this issue? Provide two or three reasons to support your argument. I think that it is a good idea for pets to be allowed in some work places. I believe that so long as the pets are well trained and groomed this is something to consider. In studies done by The U.S. National Institute of Mental Health and principal investigator Randolph Barker, a professor of management in the VCU School of Business, there is less stress, higher than norm job satisfaction and the support that is given by the pets helps the employees to be more committed to the job. (Berker, 2012) Another research was done and it came to the same conclusion that pets at work make the work place a happy, stress free, and job satisfaction rating goes up. (Park, 2012)

2. If you were an HR manager of a company, what pet policy would you set and how would you implement it? I would think that the policies stated in this article are how it should work unless it is a disability dog. Small dogs are good. Make shore that they are groomed and well mannered. If pet needs to go to the bathroom make shore it is cleaned up right away and clean up any hair left by pets. When talking about being well behaved this means does not knock things over, jump up on people or bites, does not frequently have to go to the bathroom, and in general does bark or is a nuisance. If this is a continual problem you will be asked not to bring your pet in ever again. The pet cannot be left alone at any given time while you have them at the work place.
