Human Resource Department of Riordan Manufacturing
Riordan Manufacturing is a company that employs 550 people with annual earnings of $46 million. They have three plants that they make custom plastic parts. Their mission statement to their employees is: We will maintain am innovative and team oriented environment. By assuring that our employees are well informed and properly supported, we will provide a climate focused on the long term viability of our company (Riordan Manufacturing, 2006). In 1992 the company installed a HRIS system. This package keeps track of the employee’s information such as: personal information (name, address, marital status, birth date, etc.), pay rate, personal exemptions for tax purposes, hire date, seniority date, organizational information, and vacation hours. Any changes needed to be made through their manager on a special form then entered by a payroll employee. Parts of the system that need to be modified would be to keep all employees files in a central system. Training and development records should also be part of the employees file in a central system. All applications and resumes should be in the system and not on paper. This project should be completed in about six months so that they will be ready for the second quarter of the next year. To determine what kind of system they would need to use they need to do some research on what program would fit best with the company. They need to see if it is feasible to do the project. Some things to consider are: economic feasibility, operational feasibility, technical feasibility, schedule feasibility, legal and contractual feasibility, and political feasibility.
