HR Manager Questionnaire
Introduction
In line with a study on Human Resource Practices and Organizational
Performance in the Textile and Fashion Industry, conducted by Ms Suruchi
Mittar, a research was done using questionnaires as a media.
The questionnaires try to relate the companies’ organizational performance to their attitude and implementation of HR Practices. The 17 interviewed companies were exclusively export houses in the fashion and textile industry with an annual turnover of 20 crores or more. Most of them are located in
Gurgaon, as can be taken from the table below displaying the companies which were involved in the research. The companies are also shown in the bubble graph on the following page, where they are positioned and compared to each other according to their size, i.e. turnover in relation to total number of middle level employees.

HRM. Therefore, each company was provided with two similar questionnaires whereof one had to be filled by the HR Manager and the other preferably by the CEO of the company. This method enabled a 360° evaluation of the companies’ HR policies and practices.

A number of Swedish researchers, Johanson, Wiedersheim-Paul and Vahlne, at the University of Uppsala studied the intemalisation process during the 1970s. They were influenced by Penrose's theory on the growth of the firm. The Uppsala model seeks to explain and predict two aspects of intemationalisation of the firm: the step-by-step pattern of industrial development within individual national markets and the expansion of companies across national markets, as they move from nations which are proximal to those which are increasingly psychically distant. Johanson, Wiedersheim-Paul and Vahlne studied the intemationalisation of Swedish manufacturing companies and developed a model of the companies' choice of market and form of entry when going abroad. It is a dynamic model that describes the internationalisation of the company as a process. They were also influenced by Aharoni's seminal study from 1966.…

Cascio shows how good HR practices pay off and provides a method for showing the payoff, behavioral costing. Yet HR is notorious for getting no respect in the business (or government or not-for-profit) world.
