The Human Resource Manager and Managing Multiple Responsibilities
Sam Lennox is the human resource manager of the Lakeview plant of Supreme Textile Corporation. On Monday his daily activities are jammed pack full of human resources management (HRM) functions. Sam demonstrates helping the organization reach its goals by attending a staff meeting to discuss quality control. This allows all departments to communicate and have the same company goals. Employing the skills and abilities of the workforce efficiently, is something Sam needs to work on. He had several opportunities throughout the day to build employee skills but failed to do so. When Al was short handed, Sam could have encouraged Al to reach out to other departments for help. By doing this is Al’s leadership skills would be developed and challenged. Sam was able to hire several new employees today which he accomplished providing the organization with well-trained and well-motivated employees. The new hires will still need to go through training. Sam’s office was full of applicants on Monday which distracted him from his regular duties. In the future it would be better to put into practice a scheduled interview time instead of accepting walk ins. The Lakeview plant struggles with employees’ job satisfaction and self-actualization. Sam is juggling multiple dissatisfied employee situations today. Al feels as if his needs are not important, several employees have an issue with their payroll and the current grievances. For employees to be productive, they must fell that the job is right for their abilities and that they are being treated in a fair manner. Sam struggles with time management and organization. He may have the skills to be a successful HRM but he did not ensure Al’s quality of work life was met. Employees will respond when employers pay attention to their personal needs and their work situations (Ivancevich & Konopaske, 2013).
